Pyrowugs are both larger and most fearsome than their smaller counterparts. Standing over six feet tall and deep red/grey in color they are denizens of the most foul smelling swamps. Unlike their cousins though, these bullywugs refuse to wear armor, the reason for this is as yet unknown. Pyrowugs speak the language of salamanders adn the langauge of thier cousins as well as their own harsh tongue. 5% of pyrowugs also speak some common. Combat: Pyrowugs attack in much the same way as their smaller breathren using surprise to their advantage. Their skill is vastly superior to that of other subspecies and imposes a -4 to victims surprise rolls. Fire-breathing bullywugs hop reaches a mere 20 feet forward and 10 feet high. This does hopever still give the bullywug a +1 to its attack roll, and due to the large size of this strain they also double damage with all weapons, rather than with just piercing weapons. Most of the fire-breathing bullywugs wield crude weapons, though a few have scavenged for a rare high quality sword or mace. However if depried of thier weapon they are still very dangerous foes striking three times per round with claws (1d4 damage each) and a nasty bite (1d6+1 damage). Most fearful of all the bullywugs get their name from a nasty abilty to breath a shoot jet of fire some 15 feet in length at any one opponent for 1d4 damage per hit die pf the pyrowug (save vs. breath weapon for half), five times per day. This attack has a +2 to attack rolls to sucessfully hit any creature in its path, allowing it strike multiple opponents. Even more fearful is that in swamps there is a 25% chance of such an attack sparking the methane gas and creating a huge explosion doing 6d6 damage to all creatures in a 100' x 100' area, (save vs. breath for half). Thankfully this explosion can only happen once every twelve hours. Pyrowugs are, of course, immune to all fire-based attacks. Habitat/Society/Ecology: Like the common bullywug these larger versions subsist on a diet primariy composed of fish and other small game. However they are more than a little fond of the taste of humanoid flesh and will often go out of ther way to get it. They are exceptionslly fond of troll and they are the only known creature to be able to eat the loathesome creatures and not suffer ill effects. This is a newly discovered race and little is known about its culture. It is thought that these beings were bred magically by Salamanders for the purpose of expanding their domains into areas they could not go. This of course is only rumor. Leaders and Magician Kings: For every six pyrowugs there will be a leader. Leaders have the same abilites as normal pyrowugs, but possess more hit dice and a better THAC0. There is a 10% chance that a large tribe of pyrowugs (25 or more individuals) there will be a pyrowug magician king. This immense frog-like creature is capible of jumping 30 feet high and 45 feet forward, and doing triple damage on a successful hit when hopping. These highly intelligent pyrowugs also have the ability to cast spells as a 4th level mage. The magician kings are 30% resistant to magic.
